About Us!

Hi! I’m Megan.  I’m a 29 year old Type 1 Diabetic living in the Northeast.  It’s nice to meet you!

I was diagnosed on my 2nd birthday (27 years ago!) and have lived my life to the absolute fullest with diabetes as my side kick ever since. I’ve been exceptionally lucky to have a supportive family, friends, and great health insurance to help get me to this point in my life.  That said, sometimes diabetes just sucks.  It just does. I’ve also dealt with some of the complications, side effects, and losses that diabetes has to offer and have known LOTS of people who have and continue to struggle with this disease.

I’m fortunate to have an incredible partner, for life and this site, who has encouraged me to stay healthy and build this online community.  When I was sharing my ideas to develop this site and the various fundraising and supply assistance programs associated with it, Justin was immediately a huge supporter and wanted to be there with me.  We have both lived lives profoundly impacted by diabetes and what it does to the people experiencing it.   I know his perspective is part of what has, and will continue, to make The Friendly Neighborhood Diabetics a strong place of understanding and hope.

I am so excited to be here with all of you! Don’t hesitate to share, ask questions, and be an active member of this world.  We’re really glad you’re here!

Sending Love and Light!

-Megan

Justin here. I don’t have Diabetes, but it’s safe to say that my life has been significantly impacted by it, likely in ways I don’t even realize. Of course, I’m engaged to Megan and she’s been one of my best friends for many years. My mother also was also a Type 1 Diabetic for nearly 30 years prior to her passing from complications in December of 2018.

Caring for loved ones with chronic illness isn’t remotely the same as having one. Still, it presents challenges and can affect our behavior without us even realizing it. Illness affects families in unavoidable ways, but I’ve learned along the journey and hopefully some of that knowledge will prove useful to others.

And that’s what life is all about right? Right.

I look forward to continuing the journey and learning together along the path ahead.

-Justin
